Here's An Outlook Express Tip
Managing Your Account
You can easily manage your Outlook Express e-mail by creating rules
to automatically delete junk mail, sort messages, and forward mail.
To set up rules, follow these steps:
Choose Tools, Message Rules, Mail.
The New Mail Rule dialog box appears.
Click in a check box to set a Condition for the rule.
Click in a check box to select an Action for the rule.
In the Rule Description area, click the link (the colored text, such
as Contains Specific Words), and fill in the specific information
for the rule
in the dialog box that appears.
For example, if you type sale, then all e-mail containing that word
in the subject line would move to another folder).
Fill in the Name of the Rule text box with a name that you can
recognize, and then click OK.

Here's An Excel Tip
Adding Text to an AutoShape
Most people know that you can add textboxes to your worksheet, but don't realize that you can actually add text to any AutoShape. Just follow these steps:
Using the Drawing toolbar, add your AutoShape as you normally would.
Right-click the new AutoShape. Excel displays a Context menu.
Choose Add Text from the Context menu. An insertion point appears within the body of the AutoShape.
Type your desired text.
Click somewhere outside the boundaries of the AutoShape, such as within a cell of the worksheet.
If you later resize your AutoShape, then the text within it is reformatted to fit the new dimensions of the shape. (This behavior is the same that occurs if you resize a textbox that contains text.)
The "Bytes" Beg, Bargain & Barter Basement
Got
something "computer related" to sell? Looking for that rare peripheral? If
it's computer related you can submit a short classified ad for exposure in
Dave "Bytes". Be sure to include your name and e-mail address in the ad.
You can also include a picture of the item. Now some would suggest that
there be a charge for this feature but alas, since my bookkeeping skills
leave much to be desired I've determined that this will be a free service
to all SPCUG members in good standing. "Bytes" is currently sent to
almost 1500 homes in the area. Ad requests will be included as
soon as possible. I assume absolutely no responsibility as to the accuracy
or completeness of supplied info. All transactions are between consulting
adults which leaves me entirely off the hook. Please let me know by
clicking
HERE when your merchandise is sold so that I can remove it from the
listing. I will try to run each ad for a month.

Microsoft's Hidden Settings You're Not Supposed To Find

Longhorn's New Name: Windows Vista
The next version of Windows finally has an official name: Windows
Vista.
The advertising tagline for Vista is "Clear, Confident, Connected:
Bringing clarity to your world," according to a video of the
announcement posted by Microsoft.
The company also said Friday that the first beta, or test release,
of Vista is slated for release on Aug. 3. That release will be
targeted at developers and IT professionals, according to Microsoft.
A second test release will likely debut ahead of Vista's final
release in the second half of next year, the company said.
Microsoft is also planning to begin testing a server version of the
operating system later this year. The company hasn't decided whether
that release will also ship under the Vista moniker, a company
representative said.
Previous Next Vista's three design goals include better security,
new ways to organize information, and seamless connectivity to
external devices, the company said. Microsoft said will provide more
detail on Vista features Aug. 3.
The software giant first announced plans for Longhorn in 2001. It
was originally expected to debut in 2004. The company has since
revamped the feature list and launch date several times.
Microsoft has also registered the domain name windowsvista.us

Here's A Microsoft Office Tip

Back To The Original We've all done it. At some time or another we've all inserted a picture into a document, worksheet or presentation and started altering its appearance. Let's make it larger... no smaller... no wait, we'll stretch it only vertically. And let's lighten the colors and crop it a bit over here. Next thing you know you've got a mess and you're looking at the undo button thinking "How far back do I have to go to fix this one?". Or maybe you figured that it would be faster to delete the destroyed picture and re-insert the original. Both of these ideas work but there's a quick and easy one button solution to your problem. Interested in the "how to"? Yeah, I thought you might be. When you have a picture selected the Picture toolbar should open. If it doesn't don't panic! Try a right click on the picture and choosing Show Picture Toolbar from the menu or use the View menu, Toolbars submenu, Picture choice. At any rate, once the toolbar is open you're only one button away from a reset of the picture to its original state. The button you're looking for is on the far right end—the Reset Picture button. Click it and Poof! Your picture is restored no undo or re-insertion required. |
